A squad of 10 players from the Braintree Under 8's travelled to Upminster for the Mini Tournament. The team played three games in their pool, Upminster, Stanford Le Hope and Medway.
Braintree v Upminster 1 - 0
Braintree played a strong gamefrom the outset, holding their line and causing Upminster to loose possession on a number of ocassions. Both teams played well but Braintree spent 70% of the first half in the Upminster half, the pressure paid off and shortly after the start of the second half, captain Ben Weager scored the one try of the match. A great effort by all the team and a well earned win.
Braintree v Stanford Le Hope 5 - 3
Captain Freddie Moss Prout led Braintree well in the second game, again Braintree held their line, got the tags and supported each other well. In the first half Michael Locke, Elliot Jones and Ben Weager scored tries and were supported well by the other Braintree players. In the second half the pressure was kept up and a further two tries being scored by Michael Locke and Thomas Bloomfield. Stanford Le Hope did manage to draw back three tries in the second half but Braintree recorded another win, well done.
Braintree v Medway 4 - 2
Braintree captained by Michael Locke, headed into this game needing a win to secure a place in the finals. Again the team played great rugby keeping their line and stopping Medway from scoring twice. During the match when not defending well Braintree scored 4 tries, cameron Renton, Ben Weager and James Woodmore (2). Medway played hard but Braintree's tagging limited Medway to two tries. This result saw a well earned place in the finals for the Braintree squad.
Braintree v Southend 2 - 3
Jake Gleed led the Braintree side against Southend and a great game of rugby was played. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game and tries by Calum Thompson and James Woodmore kept the scores even. Braintree continued to play hard as a team with all players supporting each other. In the last minute of the game, Braintree were unlucky not to get a third try and so took third place in the competition.
All players had a great game and represented Braintree under 8's to the higest standard and got an unexpected team award at the end of the match for the third place.
