On a great morning for rugby the U9’s were entered into the Colchester festival.
Colchester RFC advised the festival was too be played in the spirit of “festivals”, a simple round-robin of 4 games per pool. It was great to see that our pool consisted of two teams that we have not yet played.

During warm-up it was clear the squad were really-in-the-mood and eager to get started.

From the whistle the boys were in full flow, every player 100% committed in the tackle and driving the opposition backwards at a rate of knots. Ipswich our first opponents, appeared stunned at the intensity of the Braintree defence, within the first 4 tackles the ball was spilled with Braintree diving on it to claim it.
Defence turned into attack – The team executed a quick, simple short-pass and a straight drive over the line leaving a number of Ipswich defenders in their wake.
Throughout all the games Braintree’s defence was good, played with high intensity and good line formation. (At one point a tackle-drive, drove the opposition onto another pitch..!)

The attack was impressive, the boys constantly drove straight and used quick offloads to great effect - braking through the defences. This is something the boys have been working hard on in training and they were very pleased to see it work so well.
The team maintained their shape very well with the rotation of players. The game Captain’s issued clear instructions so everyone knew their jobs.
This was certainly the most complete performance from the team all year; they put on a great show and should be very proud of their performance.
