Team X:

Match 1 vs Southend (Southend win 4-3)
First game back for nearly 18 months but the boys were quickly back into action. A close fought contest against a solid southend side. The team worked well as a unit and put in a lot of tough tackles in defence and made southend earn every yard. In attack they protected the ball well and looked to offload wherever they could. Despite a fantastic effort from all the boys they were just pipped at the last by Southend with the final score being 4-3

Match 2 vs Rochford (Rochford win 6-4)

The team faced an energetic and well organised Rochford side. Rochford made a fast start and opened up a 5-1 lead by halftime. In the second half the boys showed great character, determination and fighting spirit to close the gap but just ran out of time, eventually losing 6-4.

Player of the Match: Henry Wren - Great defensive tackling & a driving force going forward.

Team Y:

Match 2 vs Southend ( Southend win 2-1)

The team were given a warm welcome back to contact rugby by a tough and well drilled Southend team. This was a very close match and the team had a few opportunities to score but were thwarted by a strong Southend defence on the try line on 3 occasions. Braintree did take a lead through a great passing move that set up a strong running move. Southend scored 2 good tries by offloading to a fast running player who crashed through our defence. A very close match that the team were disappointed to lose.

Match 2 vs Rochford (6-6 Draw)

What a game of rugby. Rochford has some very big, strong and very well coached players who put up a strong defensive wall. The team played a very strong first half and went into half time in a 4-1 lead. Injuries took their toll for both teams with each team dropping down to 7 players for most of the match. Both sides put in an amazing amount of big tackles and showed great determination throughout. Fatigue set in early in the second half and Rochford scored 5 times, whilst the team managed just 2 in reply. A draw was a great result.

Player of the Match: Jamie Burgess - A fantastic debut for the team with many solid tackles, great supporting runs and a try to top off a great day.

Things to work on for both teams: Tackling, Rucking, Scrummaging & Ripping the ball.
