Braintree bounce back for a well deserved win

Braintree bounce back for a well deserved win

Donna Kempster1 Nov 2015 - 19:46

Some strong running from the backs and drives from the forwards see Braintree put 7 tries past Harlow

Captains report

Having learnt from last week we were quick to get off the mark with a great run through their defence from Harry Mc for an early lead. This was followed by another great try by Louie who also converted it so we were 14 nil up. As a team we relaxed and started to play our game of rugby. This was then followed by another try from Freddie. Then quickly followed by a strong run from Harry P which was converted by Louie. At half time we were up 26-0. They had some big runners which constantly challenged our defence hard. Despite of this we were able to score another Try with some strong running from Harry Mc. This was then followed by a great drive from the forwards which ended up with Harry P going over for his second. And then finally one from Callum in the corner. Special thanks to everyone who did extremely well playing out of position. Also well done to Harry P for scoring 2 tries on his birthday.

The general senses of the boys was the Harlow boys looked big and they thought this is going to be a tough game. Little did they know, as we found out during the game Harlow only had 7 boys and due to the World Cup and scouting around the local schools they became a development squad of 17 players over the last few weeks. We only had 13 players today and due to key players unable to play for different reasons Harlow kindly lent us two players who did get stuck in.

Match report from roving reporter Lynne

Everyone of our boys stepped up today. They tackled, defended, ran with the ball, talked to each other and played as a team. Was really good to see their smiley faces.

Final Score was 41 Braintree 5 Harlow and listed below is the order of the action.

Harry Mc try Louie conversion
Louie try & conversion
Freddie try but no conversion from Louie
Harry P try Louie conversion

Half time score Braintree 26 Harlow 0

Harry Mc try but no conversion from Louie
Harry P try but no conversion from Louie
Callum try but no conversion from Louie

Harlow did slip in one try in the second half and I blame Amanda as she said it would be nice as they're a development side for them to score once but unfortunately they did miss their conversion.

Braintree 41 Harlow 5

After the game Harlow were fabulous hosts. At the end of the game the boys gave Harry P the bumps for his birthday which Nigel and Nick helped with, then they sang Harry happy birthday with a cake and candles in the bar of the club house.

The Harlow coach then arranged for the boys to have 3 rows of four boys for a drinking squash challenge. Harlow came 1st Braintree 2nd and the mixed team came 3rd.

As you would put it a good day in the office.

Coaches report

They got stuck in from the start and rucking and tackling well, with some great running and support play thrown in.

Tries followed and some great runs from Harry Freddie Luis and as the game went on some other strong runs from Callum, Harry P and Rafe too.

Only letting one try in from a Scrum in our 22, a little slow to move our defence across, having said that the line speed was much better.

Harlow are developing and have some good potential i'm sure we will see in the coming seasons and were good fun in the bar doing boat racers etc.

All in all it was great to see them enjoying the game and working hard, with some self belief.
